State of the Blog
I haven't posted anything here in a while.
My last post was a little over two years ago now, in 2018, when I wrote about buying a Nintendo Switch. Since then, I've played quite a few games, but I haven't really worked on making anything.
I guess I've had a lack of motivation since then. I chalk it up to a few things, like being preoccupied playing games instead of making them, the stress of wondering if my old job was going to lay me off, or finding a new job and then learning that I hated it. Fortunately, at the start of 2020 I started a (new) new job with old coworkers / bosses, and I am loving it. I have a lot more free time now and it's done wonders for the life in my work-life balance. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 crisis, we're all forced to stay inside and not really do anything with friends, so it's not like I'm taking any more vacations with all this spare time. Instead, I've been having fun hanging out with Lauren (now my fiancée!), and spending time with friends in video calls or online games. I've also finally been able to work through a few games in my backlog, which brings me to the update that I want to share...
If you follow my personal twitter (@Heisengerm), you may have seen that I've been writing short reviews on games I've completed lately. I started out doing this because I noticed that I was chewing through games pretty quickly and not really appreciating them as much. My goal with writing reviews was to use them as a way to help myself gather my thoughts on games as I play them so that I could appreciate them a little more. I began with just simple reviews on Twitter as a sort of proof of concept, just to see if I liked doing it. I also played around with taking screenshots (the PS4 I just got is great for this), which I've come to love doing. However, I started to realize that maybe Twitter isn't the best place to write reviews, especially as I started making them a little more detailed. So, I have decided to start posting my new reviews on this blog. I'm not limiting myself to any particular games, or even recent games. I also won't write a review unless I actually finish the game. And as far as how often I will write reviews, I plan to take a leisurely pace, writing as I finish the games and as I have time. Currently I am playing through Nier: Automata, so when I will work on my review as soon as I'm done!
I'm really excited to be back on here, getting the words flowing. It's been a while since I've done anything creative, and it's making me feel a little restless. And while writing reviews isn't what I started this blog to do, I think I'm going to like it. Hopefully, once I get the ball rolling here, I'll be able to find the motivation to work on a new game...
Not making any promises.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more blog posts and game reviews!
